The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) kickstarted their week-long protest against the rising fuel prices on Friday.
Led by AAP’s Delhi’s convenor Gopal Rai, the party took out a protest march from the AAP office in Rouse Avenue. Around 100 supporters including MLAs and other senior party leaders walked till the ITO intersection where effigies were burnt.
Slogans against Centre
Protesters shouted slogans against the Narendra Modi government as they have failed to act against the rising fuel prices in the country despite the slumping crude oil prices in the international market.
Placards reading ‘Shame Modi government, shame’ and ‘Desh ki janta kare pukaar, kuch toh reham karo sarkaar’ (the people of the country are calling out, have some mercy, government).
A group of women asked how ‘mehengai’ (dearness) which was a ‘dayan’ (witch) in the Congress rule has suddenly become a mark of development.
“We have all come out to seek answers as to why the government is charging the people so much for petrol and diesel when the international prices are less than $50 a barrel,” said Sunita Sharma, a supporter.
Protest marches were also simultaneously carried out by AAP workers in all the 70 constituencies.
AAP teams in Jharkhand and Uttarakhand also organised local protests.
