Rights panel  fiat to Travancore med college

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Human Rights Commission has directed Travancore Medical College, Kollam, to return the certificates of 34 students who passed MBBS course from the institution in August this year.

The Commission also told the government to ensure that the certficates of students who had obtained admission on merit are returned without delay. The college had kept in its custody the Class X, Plus-Two and MBBS degree certificates of the students citing certain clauses in the bond signed by them. The Commission noted that keeping certficates in such a manner amounted to violation of human rights.

The Commission, in its order, said the management would be held responsible for losses suffered by the students in case they are not able to pursue higher studies. The panel asked the Kerala University of Health Sciences and the Health Secretary to submit a report within two weeks. The case will come up for hearing on November 7
