A five-year-old son of a farm labourer was mauled to death by a leopard at village Lakhamapur in Dindori taluka of the district last night, police said today.
The incident took place near the industrial belt in village when the leopard, hidden in a sugarcane field, attacked Vivek Bind, while he was playing in front of his house and dragged him in the field, said police.
Locals, who rushed to rescue Vivek, found him in the field with several wounds, they picked him up and took the boy to a hospital in Dindori where doctors declared him dead, police added.
Police have registered a case of accidental death and asked forest department officials to trap the leopard.
