Renault Captur India unveil: Top things that make it a worry for Hyundai Creta and Maruti S-Cross

The Renault Captur has been making news for a long time now ever since Renault confirmed it was bringing its latest crossover to India. After numerous sighting of the test model in spy shots, The Captur is finally ready to be launched in India in about a month. With the car being unveiled to the media today it is clear that Renault India is ready to make the most of the festive season with this new SUV. We've got the first clear look into the India-spec Captur. It should be noted that the model that will be sold in India is not the one made and sold in Europe but the one made in Russia and South American markets instead. The Duster tuned out to be a successful SUV for Renault in India but lately, new entrants have pushed its sales down. Renault is now hoping to get a pie of the growing premium SUV/ crossover segment in India with the Captur. The road to success, however, isn't going to be easy for the Captur as it'll have to go against formidable competitors such as the Hyundai Creta and the new Maruti Suzuki S-Cross, which is due to be launched on 28th September. The Captur, though, does have some strong weapons in its arsenal that could help it get a firm footing in the segment. Renault Captur coming to India is designed as a crossover, the company has stuck to its global design and will position the Captur above Renault Duster. There will be no base variant on the Captur in the Indian market, so expect it to be loaded with features in all the variants. Emerging markets like Brazil and Russia spells the crossover as ‘Kaptur’ while the Indian-arm of Renault has decided to opt for the European name. The top-variant of the Captur gets an additional ‘Platine’ name tag. Renault Captur is 4329 mm in length, 1813 mm wide and stands tall at 1619 mm. The crossover is a bit longer than the Duster but is short on height and width. The wheelbase measures 2673 mm and has a ground clearance of 210 mm. The face of the car gets Renault’s  family grille with all-LED headlamps and the top-variants will also feature dynamic turn-on indicators. All variants of Renault Captur will get dual airbags, ABS, EBD and brake assist as a standard safety feature. Rear parking camera with parking sensors and ISOFIX child seat anchor are other additional safety equipment on board Captur.

Interiors of the Renault Captur are finished in dual-tone black and white shade with the centre console finished in piano black. It gets the same infotainment as in the Renault Duster and Renault Kwid. Expect, Renault India to offer a whole new range of personalization and customisation options on the Captur. Renault is calling the Captur a driver’s companion as the top-end variants will host features like automatic headlamps and rain-sensing wipers.

Renault Captur will be launched with a 1.5L petrol and 1.5L diesel engine options.  The petrol engine sheds a max power of 104 bhp and 142 Nm of torque mated to a 5-Speed manual gearbox while the diesel motor makes 108 bhp and 240 Nm of torque and gets a six-speed manual transmission. Expect the carmaker to introduce an automatic gearbox on the Captur sometime later.
