Company said there is a large untapped opportunity in rural section with the subscriber peneteration only at 57 per cent
Idea Cellular said the industry will move towards more bundled offers of unlimited voice and data 2018 onwards.

Large scale investments will be needed to manage large voice and data volumes as 1.4 billion SIMs consolidate with only 4-5 operators, said the Kumar Mangalam Birla-owned company in an investor presentation.

The company said that there is a large untapped opportunity in rural section with the subscriber peneteration only at 57 per cent compared to overall 91 per cent. There is also opportunity in the data space with broadband data subscriber penetration at 22 per cent in India and blended monthly data usage/data subscriber is just 3 GB.

The operator said that in FY16 and FY17 a capex of Rs 15,700 crore had helped it to expand its network sites. It said that a similar level of network sites will help to support 15-20 times the data volume of previous financial year, indicating that the peak capex phase is over

The telco sees a strong monetisation potential from its captive towers and Idea's 11.15 per cent in Indus Towers. The operator is in the middle of its merger process with Vodafone India and said it has received conditional approval from SEBI, unconditional nod of Competition Commission of India (CCI), has filed an application for the same in National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and will conduct a shareholders and creditors meet on October 11th
