The Film Federation of India (FFI) has selected Eros-owned Newton as India’s official submission for the 2018 Oscars in the Best Foreign Film language category.

Directed by Amit V Masurkar and starring Rajkummar Rao, Pankaj Tripathi and Raghubir Yadav, the film received rousing accolades at the Berlin Film Festival earlier this year, and was released in cinemas on Friday.

Sunil Lulla, MD, Eros International Media Ltd, said: “It gives us immense pleasure that Newton is India’s official entry to Oscars 2018. We, at Eros, are extremely proud as this film is totally deserving of this huge honour and we will continue to back good cinema as always.”

Highly anticipated film

Presented by Eros International and Colour Yellow and produced by Drishyam Films, Newton is a dark political comedy about a rookie government clerk, assigned to conduct elections in the conflict-ridden jungles of Chhattisgarh, despite the fear of Naxalite attacks.

Masurkar penned the screenplay along with Mayank Tewari.
