Bhayandar: In a bid to make the policing system more approachable and easier for the common man, SP Dr. Mahesh Patil has decided to make an online push and updated the Thane (rural) Police website ( www.thaneruralpolice.gov.in) by adding a host of new features. This will eliminate people’s need to visit a police station to lodge a lost/found article report, passport and tenant verification or even to file a FIR.
While one can enter the particulars of lost or found articles or documents, details of tenants will have to be submitted in the respective sections of the web portal for an e-approval of leave and license agreements. For filing FIR’s you just have to key in your plea with relevant details in the online complaint section of the web portal. Later, an acknowledgement receipt with digital signature will be issued, and complainants will have to print it out.
Moreover, delays in issue of passports due to lack of timely police verification will be a thing of the past, as the police has replaced physical verification of the applicant’s antecedents for online verification. “This is one of the several innovative measures that we have introduced in order to enhance transparency and make the police accessible to people.” said Dr. Patil.
Under the m-passport initiative, applicants need not visit the police station as the field-level police personnel involved in the passport verification process will be able to directly view the application on their tabs and after completing the verification, the application will be updated.
With for sub-divisional offices-Mira Road, Ganeshpuri, Shahpur and Murbad, there are 17police stations under the jurisdiction of Thane (rural) police. Thanks to the rapid development as compared to other regions, the Mira Road division itself registers an average of 2,500 crimes each year putting immense pressure on the available resources.
