Govt to strengthen ‘Korea Plus’ cell to strengthen FDI from S.Korea

Will leverage S.Korea’s technological prowess to support industrial growth in India, says Prabhu

Commerce and Industry Minister Suresh Prabhu on Friday said the government is keen to facilitate greater investments from South Korea and would strengthen the ‘Korea Plus” cell in this regard. “Korea Plus” is a strategic initiative between the Governments of India and South Korea “to promote, facilitate and retain Korean investments in India.”

Mr. Prabhu, who held talks with South Korean officials and business persons in Seoul, said India’s ties with that country also assumes “great significance” in the context of India’s pursuance of an ‘Act East Policy’. He said the government would leverage South Korea’s “technological prowess to support industrial growth in India.”

Mr. Prabhu said he also met the leader of the ruling Democratic Party, Choo Mi-ae to strengthen the cooperation between the two nations. “Sought her support for an early harvest from bilateral trade negotiations. Ms Choo Mi-ae reassured that India's cooperation with S Korea will go beyond Economics to culture, tourism, defence amongst other areas,” Mr. Prabhu tweeted. The minister said he also addressed the business leader forum comprising of senior leadership of Korean business giants including TYM, Samsung, Posco, Kia Motors, CJ Logistics, Doosan, LS Auto, Asiana Airlines, Toray and Hyundai Electric.
