A 22-year-old man employed as housekeeping staff has been arrested for allegedly molesting a Class IV student of The Millennium School in Panipat. The nine-year-old girl had gone to washroom on Wednesday morning when the accused tried to molest her.

Accused Tarun, a resident of Rakesh Nagar in Panipat, was arrested late on Thursday night after he confessed to having molested the girl, said Panipat Police spokesperson.

“The male housekeeping staff was detained for questioning in connection with the case. Tarun was arrested around midnight after he confessed to his crime,” said the spokesperson. Tarun will be produced in the court on Friday and the police would seek his remand for further investigation in the case.

The girl had gone to washroom on Wednesday morning when an unidentified man in green T-shirt tried to hold her from behind and assault her. He even threatened her not to disclose to anyone about it. The parents reported the matter to school principal Amita Kochhar on Wednesday evening after they noticed marks around the girl's waist. A formal complaint was given to the police and the housekeeping staff was interrogated.

Several parents staged a protest outside school on Thursday morning accusing the school authorities of trying to hush-up the matter and for failing to provide security to the students. Ms. Kochhar, however, denied all charges.
