Senior Congress leader and former Union Minister P Chidambaram today slammed reports saying that his son Karti has many offshore accounts. Saying that the allegations are totally wrong, Chidambaram added that a lie cannot become a truth. “An absolute lie, lie doesn’t become truth”, he was quoted as saying by ANI. Slamming the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), he asked, “Why doesn’t CBI take my open offer and name the alleged ‘undisclosed assets’?”, ANI quoted him as saying further.

“I have already made a public statement that my family and I will execute any document necessary to transfer the alleged ‘undisclosed asset’ to the government so that government can become the owner,” he said.

Earlier in the day, the CBI claimed in Supreme Court that a lookout notice was issued against Karti Chidambaram in order to prevent him travelling abroad as he was in process of closing several foreign bank accounts. It also told the top court during the hearing that several issues have come out during the probe and several others may be revealed, PTI report said.

The probing agency also wanted to place the documents related to its probe in a sealed cover before the court, which was opposed by Karti’s counsel and senior advocate Kapil Sibal. “What he did abroad is part of this sealed cover,” Additional Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the Supreme Court bench, PTI reported.

“Let me say what is contained in the sealed cover. What he has done when he was abroad. He said (during interrogation) he has only one account abroad. But when he went abroad, he closed several bank accounts. I don’t want to say all this as it will embarrass him but I have been compelled,” Sibal told the court in response, as per the agency.
