IRCTC hotel tender case: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has summoned former Bihar chief minister and RJD supremo Lalu Yadav on September 25 in the Railways hotel tender case, while asking his son and former deputy CM Tejashwi Yadav to appear on the next day, ANI said. It had registered an FIR against Lalu Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi and son Tejashwi in July along with an official of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) and two others.
As per Indian Express, earlier the agency had summoned the father-son duo in the case but none of them appeared, asking for more time. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) had also summoned Rabri Devi last week. However, she requested fro more time on the ground of “personal commitments”. As per PTI, the CBI had earlier alleged that during his tenure as Railway minister, Lalu Prasad Yadav had handed over maintenance of two hotels, which were run by IRCTC in Ranchi and Puri to Sujata Hotel, the company that was owned by Vinay and Vijay Kochhar, in return for a plot of three acres in Patna with the help of a benami company.
The agency alleged that as Railway minister, Lalu Yadav abused his official position to extend favours to Kochhars and acquired a premium land through Delight Marketing Company, a benami firm , and also managed award of leasing of the two hotels “dishonestly and fraudulently,” the agency said. CBI has filed the case against Sarla Gupta, wife of Prem Chand Gupta, a former union minister, along with Lalu Prasad Yadav, Rabri and Tejaswi, the PTI added.
