Information obtained under the Right to Information (RTI) Act revealed that after spending Rs 33.34 lakh in the last 15 months, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) is yet to complete its work of setting up an e-office. The MMRDA, however, has said the shift to an e-office is a continuous process and cannot be “completed”.

Information gathered by RTI activist Anil Galgali shows that the MMRDA’s Information and Technology Cell had received a proposal from the National Informatics Centre (NIC) and the work started on July 4, 2016. “While on one hand, the MMRDA is claiming to create Smart BKC, on the other, its own office at BKC is not smart,” said Galgali.

Writing to Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, he has demanded that the work be completed soon to allow officials to address residents’ issues in a fast and efficient manner. A senior MMRDA official said it is in the process of becoming an e-office and the first phase should be completed in a month’s time.

“The shift to an e-office with NIC is an on-going process. We are following all procedures laid down by them and various compliances need to be done. We will be implementing it in phases, starting from the administration division. In a month, we should be able to implement the first phase and provide training for staff,” said a senior official from MMRDA’s I-T Cell. He added that the upgrade to an e-office will be a continuous process and it cannot be completed.
