A Class I student of a school in Chandivali died after slipping and falling on the school premises around 10.40 a.m. on Thursday.

According to the Saki Naka police, Swarang Dalvi (6), a student of Pawar Public School, was running towards the washroom with his friends during recess, when he slipped and fell unconscious. When the school’s medical officer was unable to revive Swarang, the boy was rushed to Hiranandani Hospital in Powai, where he was declared dead before admission.

The police were then alerted. “The CCTV camera footage clearly shows the boy falling by accident,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone X) Navinchandra Reddy. He said Swarang did not have any medical history that could have triggered his death.

The post mortem report says Swarang had pneumonia, and the cause of death is choking of the windpipe.

Dr. Madhura Phadke, the school’s principal, said, “It is a major loss for us, and we stand by the family. We are trying to help and shall continue doing so.”

Swarang lived with his parents in Bhatwadi, Ghatkopar. His father, Ratnadeep, works as a music teacher in the Bhandup branch of the same school.

The police have registered an accidental death report.
