Farmers of Gundluru village of Kalikiri mandal in Chittoor district on Wednesday lodged a police complaint against the officials of the Power Grid Corporation of India, alleging harassment and intimidation, and efforts to erect transformers and cables across their fields.
P. Changal Reddy, chief advisor of the Consortium of Indian Farmers told The Hindu that the corporation, which is the works licensee, had tried to enter the fields without authorisation from the Collector or consent from farmers.
Based on the government orders of 2007 and 2017 of AP, which prohibits unauthorised entry of licensees into fields, the farmers of Gundluru approached the police.
He said ₹300 crore had been pending toward compensation to farmers in Chittoor district for a decade from the corporation and State bodies.
Meanwhile, Kalikiri police said that after receiving the complaint, works were stopped at the fields and the officials concerned were informed to adhere to the prevailing norms before executing their works.
