“We are thrilled to continue our creative collaboration with master storytellers David Simon and George Pelecanos,” the HBO programming president Casey Bloys told the publication. He went on to praise the lead actors for their ability to enact the vision of the creators on screen.

Created by David Simon and George Pelecanos, the series had an assortment of characters who effectively recreate the debauched lifestyle of the 70s in New York. Simon and Pelecanos have also worked on The Wire before, which was concerned with the Baltimore's flourishing drug circuit.

Premiering on 10 September, the first season of The Deuce consisted of a total of eight episodes. The series is executive produced by the creators themselves along with Nina Kostroff Noble and James Franco. Richard Price serves as co-executive producer while Marc Henry Johnson and Gyllenhaal act as producers.
