A Tulu feature film titled “Nemoda Boolya” based on “bhootaradhane” would be released in cinemas in Udupi and Dakshina Kannada districts on September 22.

Addressing presspersons here on Wednesday, B.K. Gangadhar, director of the film, said that the film was shot at locales in Kaup, Katapady and Karkala. It was based on a true incident which took place in Puttur about 200 years ago and mentioned in the “Parati Mangane” paddadana. This story had already come out in the form of a play. Now, it was being brought in the form of a feature film.

“Since it is a period film, we have used Tulu, which was spoken then. There is some difference between the Tulu spoken two centuries ago and now,” he said.

Even the costumes were different then. The food and the way the festival were celebrated were also different. Women used to occupy a place of pride because Tulu culture was matri-lineal, he said.

Preetam Shetty, Rajani and Pradeepchandra Kuthpady are playing the lead roles in the film. The film has six songs which have been filmed in lush green locales.

V. Manohar has written the lyrics and given the music for the film. Cinematography is by Umapati, while editing is by Prakash Karinje. Costumes are by Kumar-Somu and dance by Madan Harini.

The producer of the film is Chandrashekhar Mada Kudradiguttu.

The film will be released in a theatre each in Udupi, Puttur and Moodbidri and in three multiplexes in Mangaluru, Mr. Gangadhar said.
