Sinha seeks votes for BJP; Lad hits back

Labour Minister Santosh Lad on Thursday took umbrage at Civil Aviation Minister Jayant Sinha’s claim that a lot of development has taken place during the four-year rule of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre.

Mr. Sinha, speaking after inaugurating the first flight between Vijayanagar (Toranagal) in Ballari district and Hyderabad under the regional connectivity initiative, said the NDA government has accorded priority to the welfare of all and has transformed the lives of many in a short time. The pace of development in all spheres in the country is “galloping” when compared to the previous years, he said, appealing to the public to support the BJP in the upcoming Assembly elections in the State.

An irked Mr. Lad told reporters later that people were fed up of listening to these “oft-repeated statements” from BJP leaders.

“During the last 70 years, a lot of development has taken place. It was during the Congress regime that Right to Information, Right to Education, and digitalisation, to name a few, were brought in. Under the present BJP-led NDA regime, the Gross Domestic Product is on the downward trend, as told by senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy. The BJP, instead of building castles in the air and criticising the Opposition, should understand the ground realities and start working for the welfare of the farmers and the common man,” he said.
