Following the huge quantum of water being released from Narayanpur reservoir in Surpur taluk, Yadgir district administration sounded a alert along the banks of the Krishna on Thursday and warned the villagers not to venture into the river for fishing or any reasons.
According to officials of Krishna Bhagya Jala Nigama Limited ( KBJNL), 20 gates of the Narayanpur reservoir have been opened. Inflow into the reservoir is more than one lakh cusecs after water Almatti dam was discharged owing to copious rainfall in the catchment areas.
The present water level in the reservoir stood at 491.48 meter against the full reservoir limit of 492.25 meters.
J. Manjunath, Deputy Commissioner, told The Hindu that the alert was sounded owing to heavy flow in the Krishna, which is in spate after water being released from the Narayanapur reservoir.
Meanwhile, the Kollur bridge connecting Raichur district with Yadgir and Kalaburagi district is submerged. According to sources, hundreds acres in Kollur, Markal and other river basin villages were inundated with the flood waters.
