CPI (M) Member of Parliament T.K. Rangarajan has written to Defence Minister Nirmala Sitharaman protesting against the scrapping of free rations for military personnel serving in peace stations across the country.

In his letter to Ms. Sitharaman, the Rajya Sabha MP from Tamil Nadu said that the government’s move to scrap free rations to military personnel in peace stations and compensation in cash has “created resentment among large sections of the personnel.”

“It is unfortunate that the government has decided to show a distinction between hostile area and peace stations in the matter of supply of free ration. The military personnel posted at peace stations are required to be treated on par with the personnel posted in hostile/combat areas,” Mr. Rangarajan contended and further requested the Defence Minister to review the matter.
