Tuesday’s cancellation of tender by Commissioner of Yadgir City Municipal Council Sangappa Upase led to council members approach Deputy Commissioner J. Manjunath on Wednedsay seeking Mr. Upase’s immediate transfer in public interest.

Addressing a press conference here, municipal president Lalitha Anpur and other council members said that the action by the commissioner (to cancel the ₹ 1.75-crore tender) was not only against the people’s wish but also the law as he did not have the power to cancel the tender once it was called for, without approval from the elected body.

“We were unaware about the action and we came to know about it only through news reports,” she said.

Making it clear, Ms Anapur said that the elected body had no interest in clearing the tender process but had only pressured the officers to take up the works expeditiously, as it involved several important civic works. Meanwhile, Mr. Upase sought police protection apprehending that his routine office work may be disturbed.
