Senior orthopedician Amarnath Surat has developed a Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) extraction kit which is being used as a regenerative medicine in dentistry, Orthopedics and Dermatology. The PRP is being manufactured by Re Gen Technologies.
“We can extract minimum five to 10 times of concentrated PRP for the treatment. This kit is for single use only. We have kept the costs a low level in view of affordability,” Dr. Amarnath said.
The scientific community has been developing new areas of research that have fuelled the emergence of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering bringing into the spotlight treatments such as those based on platelet rich plasma (PRP). PRP belongs to the broad group of substances classified as Orthobiologics.
PRP is a concentrate of platelet-rich plasma protein derived from whole blood, centrifuged to remove red blood cells. It has a greater concentration of growth factors than whole blood, and has been used to encourage a brisk healing response across several specialities.
Dr. Amarnath said that main indications in Orthopedics are osteoarthritis, tennis elbow, plantar fasciitis, tendon injuries, and rotator cuff pain. The PRP usage is mainly in dental surgery (tooth extractions and periodontal surgery), oral surgery (soft tissues and bone tissue surgery, implant surgery and Bisphosphonate-related Osteonecrosis of the jaw surgery).
