A nine-year-old white tiger died three days after a fight with two other Royal Bengal tigers at the safari of Bannerghatta Biological Park (BBP).

According to park authorities, Shreyas, which was born and brought up in captivity of the park, died some time at 8 p.m. on Wednesday. “This tiger was recovering after the fight and was even walking. Only a post-mortem can help ascertain the reasons for the death,” said Santosh Kumar, Executive Director, BBP.

On Sunday, during the safari, two ‘white’ Royal Bengal Tigers entered an enclosure meant for other Royal Bengal Tigers and a territorial fight ensued. The two tigers - Amar and Shreyas - suffered injuries, with Shreyas suffering deeper gashes. “We have told our staff to be more careful to ensure these groups do not come in proximity to each other again,” said Mr. Kumar, who blamed it on inexperienced staff manning the gates.
