A Maoist was killed in a gunfight with security forces in Chhattisgarh's Sukma district early on Thursday, said police.
The joint operation of District Executive Force and Special Task Force took place in Pidmel jungle area under Polampalli police station limits.
On receipt of specific intelligence about presence of Maoists, the team went on a search operation on Wednesday. However it was while returning on Thursday that the security personnel encountered the Maoists and a gunfight broke out. A People's Militia commander was killed, police said.
The body of the commander has been seized along with Maoist literature and material to make improvised explosive devices.
Bastar Inspector General of Police Vivekananda Sinha said: "One Maoist was killed in the encounter that took place at 5.30 a.m. on Thursday. Three weapons were found on him."
