CBI raids residence of retired HC judge, owner of medical college

The anti-corruption unit of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), New Delhi, raided on Wednesday the premises of BP Yadav and Palash Yadav, owner of Prasad Institute of Medical Sciences located on Kanpur Road, as well as the residence of justice (retd) IM Quddusi of the Odhisa and Allahabad high courts on the charge of hatching a conspiracy to fraudulently get recognition for the medical college that had been debarred by the Medical Council of India (MCI).

The CBI also raided the residence and offices of Bhawana Pandey, resident of Greater Kailash, New Delhi, Sudhir Giri of Venkateshwara Medical College, Meerut, Bishwanath Agarwal, resident of Bhubaneswar, for entering into a criminal conspiracy to get the matter settled in the Supreme Court by taking services of the judge and senior public servants through illegal gratification.

A spokesperson of CBI said FIR had been registered against BP Yadav, Palash Yadav, IM Quddusi, Bhawana Pandey, Sudhir Giri, Biswanath Agrawal and other un-known public servants and private persons under section 8 of the Prevention of Corruption, 1968 and section 120-B of IPC.

Prasad Institute of Medical Sciences is among 46 medical colleges across the country that have been barred by the central government from admitting medical students for the forthcoming first and second year session due to substandard facilities and non-fulfillment of required criteria.

The Yadavs filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the order of the MCI, after which the court directed the central government to consider the matter afresh. But the central government in an order passed on August 10 once again debarred the medical college from admitting students and authorized MCI to encash the bank guarantee.

Later Yadav got in touch with justice Qudussi, Bhawana Pandey and Sudhir Giri to get a favourable order by the apex court through their contacts. “BP Yadav, in furtherance of the conspiracy, requested Quddusi and Bhawana Pandey who assured to get the matter settled in the Supreme Court through their contacts and they further engaged Biswanath Agrawala for that,” the CBI spokesperson said.

Agrawal claimed to be very close to senior public servants and demanded huge money for seeking public servants’ help in the matter.

All the above-mentioned accused had planned a meeting in Delhi to deliver the money to Agrawal, the CBI spokesperson said.
