The rebel AIADMK MLAs have been cooped up at the plush Paddington Resort in Kushalnagar city of Kodagu district since September 8.
While a belligerent TTV Dinakaran, jailed Sasikala's nephew, fights for supremacy in the AIADMK, the 18 rebel MLAs, who were recently disqualified by the Tamil Nadu Assembly speaker, have been staying at luxurious resort in Karnataka since the last fortnight.
Their stay at the resort, so far, has reportedly led to a bill of nearly Rs 1 crore. With reports suggesting that the 18 disqualified MLAs could stay at the resort for another week, the money ultimately shelled out for their stay could be between Rs 1.5-2 crore.
The rebel AIADMK MLAs have been cooped up at the plush Paddington Resort in Kushalnagar city of Kodagu district since September 8.
They were initially staying at a resort in Puducherry before heading to the Paddington Resort. The Paddington Resort has a spa, a multi-cuisine, fine-dining restaurant and offers a range of activities for its guests.
The disqualified MLAs, who have been staying at the resort for the last 13 days, could extend their stay by another week.
For the stay, the entire 40-room resort has been booked although the MLAs are using 23 rooms. This has been done to ensure that no outsider enters the resort.
Sources have told India Today that the average cost per night at the resort comes to Rs 7 lakh, which includes the tariff of 40 rooms. For a 13-day stay, the expenses come close to Rs 1 crore.
According to sources, to remain fit, some disqualified MLAs participate in cricket matches with the resort staff while others take a walk within the resort every morning.
However, due to incessant rains since the last few days, the MLAs have been forced to stay indoors and follow Tamil Nadu politics on TV.
As questions are being raised on who is footing the bill for the MLAs' stay at the resort, sources told India Today that TTV Dinakaran is believed to have already paid a huge advance to the resort owner and the balance amount will be paid soon.
The staff at the Paddington resort have not been forthcoming on queries related to room-booking and answer such calls with a standard response of 'try next day'.
