Sanjeev Kapoor to be face of street food for global fair

Aiming to attract more investment in the food processing sector, the today named renowned chef Sanjeev Kapoor as brand ambassador of street food to be showcased in a global fair in November.

The three-day 'World Food India' event will begin in the national capital from November 3, which will provide a platform to various stakeholders in the entire food value chain to showcase their strengths.


"We will also showcase street food of and other countries during the three-day event. Chef Sanjeev Kapoor has given consent to be part of it. He will help showcase not only traditional Indian street food, but also fusion to suit western palates," Food Processing Minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal told reporters.

She added that the event will provide a platform to investors to taste the food and then take a call on investing in under the 'Make in India' programme.

"They do not want to invest here and come out with a product to know later that it is not liked by Indian palate. The street food event will give opportunity to see what each state in can offer," Badal explained.

Highlighting the street food, Kapoor said state-specific food -- be it in marine or dairy or spices -- will be showcased by preparing them both in traditional and fusion form.

For instance, millets like ragi and jowar are known as health food. "We produce them and we will show to the world the best cuisine made from these and how companies can retail them," he added.

The food processing sector received USD 5.76 billion in FDI equity inflows from 2010-11 to 2015-16. In 2016-17, (April-December), the sector in the country received USD 663.23 million worth of FDI.
