Ensure benefits of welfare schemes: SC panel member

National Scheduled Caste Commission member K. Ramulu has asked the authorities to take initiative to give speedier justice to the aggrieved persons and ensure the benefits of welfare schemes meant for them reached the genuine and needy dalits.

Conducting a review here on Monday with district officials at the Pragathi Bhavan after his visit to Issapally and Manthani in Armoor where the dalits were reportedly assaulted by the upper caste people recently, he suggested to the authorities to see that the schemes meant for the development of Dalits were financed by the bankers.

He emphasised the need for giving three-acre land and also two-bed room houses to the deserving Dalits. He enquired with the in-charge Collector A. Ravinder Reddy as to how many families had benefited with the twin schemes in the last three years.

Suggesting to the police and civil authorities to conduct the investigation in a transparent manner when the Dalits were subjected to attacks, he said that first of all they must be referred to medical treatment and given the specified financial assistance.

Asking the police to bind over the accused in both groups in Manthani village Mr. Ramulu wanted to know what measures they had taken to prevent clashes and protect the law and order.

Mr. Ravinder Reddy and Commissioner of Police Kartikeya attended the meeting. People from different political parties and people’s organisations met him at the R and B Guest House and made representations.
