Thousands pay homage to Qamarul Islam

Thousands of people from Kalaburagi and neighbouring districts paid last respects to their beloved leader Qamar Ul Islam, former minister, on Tuesday.

The body of the leader, who passed away at private hospital in Bengaluru on Monday morning, was shifted to Kalaburagi by road on Tuesday morning. The cortege was kept at his residence in Bengaluru on Monday before being shifted to Kalaburagi.

According to sources, the cortege was taken in procession from Jeelanabad, Aland check post to reach KCT Engineering college ground in Kalaburagi, where the mortal remains was kept for public view from 1.00 pm to 5 p.m. Hundreds of people gathered en route to catch last glimpse of the body wrapped in the Tricolour.

The body was buried at Khalender Khan burial ground at Anand Nagar in the city.

Prominent political leaders including Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, Leader of the Congress in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge, a few cabinet Minister and political leaders cutting across the party took part in the last rites.

A holiday was declared for the educational institutions and government offices.

Most of the localities in Kalaburagi city wore desert look as the commercial establishments were voluntarily closed down their shutters and vehicular movement was restricted on various roads.
