Four more children die of encephalitis at BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur

Four more children in the age group of three to seven years died of acute encephalitis syndrome (AES) at the BRD Medical College in Gorakhpur in the last 24 hours.
The Gorakhpur district administration released these figures on the encephalitis deaths on Tuesday. All the deaths took place in the encephalitis ward of the hospital.
The BRD Medical College was in the spotlight when 30 children died in 48 hours due to alleged disruption in oxygen supply between August 9 and 11.
The children, who died belonged to Gorakhpur, Sant Kabirnagar, Maharajganj and Siddharthnagar districts of eastern Uttar Pradesh.
The district administration did not release figures of deaths caused by other diseases at the neonatal and general paediatric wards.
Twelve more patients of the disease were admitted to the medical college hospital during this period. Fourteen AES patients were discharged between Sunday and Monday after their health improved following treatment, the district administration said.
Since January this year, 239 patients of AES alone died at the hospital.
