Madhya Pradesh farmer gets Rs 4.70 in crop loss claim under PM Fasal Bima Yojana

Fifty two farmers in Madhya Pradesh have together received a little over Rs 3,000 as insurance claim under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana for their soybean crop loss.

The farmers belong to Tilaria village in Sehore district, which happens to be the home turf of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

The farmers were awarded a total insurance amount of Rs 3061.50 and were also handed certificates which carried pictures of the chief minister and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Certificates were awarded to farmers along with the insurance claim.

The luckiest of the lot was Neela Bai who got an insurance amount of Rs 194.24 for a near-total soybean crop loss on her 22-acre land.

"We had paid a premium of Rs 5,220 for the insurance under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojna and we are getting Rs 194 as compensation. God knows how they have arrived at this conclusion," Neela Bai's son told India Today.

Fifty-year-old Uttam Singh, who suffered a crop loss on his two-acre farm, got Rs 17 in insurance claim. Singh had paid an insurance premium of Rs 1,342.

In Rehti tehsil of Sehore, Badami Lal received an insurance claim of Rs 4.70 for his crop loss.

The Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Sehore district in February 2016.

Most farmers, who received a pittance as insurance claim for their crop damage, had participated in the mega event.
