Generation of 710 MW at Dr. Narla Tatarao Thermal Power Station (NTTPS) at Ibrahimpatnam here has been kept on hold due to a steep fall in demand and a corresponding rise in wind and hydel power availability.
Speaking to The Hindu, NTTPS Chief Engineer M. Padma Sujatha said the State’s daily requirement of power fell from 168 Million Units (MU) four days ago to 138 MU and 530 MW of hydel power is coming from Sileru.
Besides, there was a substantial increase in the wind energy generation which is expected to maintain at the present high levels for another few days.
As a consequence, unit number 7 of 510 MW (12 MU per day capacity) and one of the six 210 MW units (5 MU) have been temporarily shut down as per orders from the Vijayawada-based State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC). In addition to this, a 210 MW unit is under overhauling.
Ms. Sujatha denied reports that the curtailment of generation was to due to coal shortage.
She stated that the plant has at present a stock of 40,000 tonnes and it is being replenished on a daily basis. Generation is likely to resume once the demand climbs up later this week.
