Authorities continue to ignore the dilapidated Muthuvara-Puzhakkal road

Motorists are at their wit’s end as the authorities continue to ignore the battered condition of Muthuvara-Puzhakkal stretch of the Thrissur-Kunnamkualm road.

The road, one of the most busy State Highways towards Kozhikode, Guruvayur, and Chavakkad, has been lying in a pathetic state for months. Traffic blocks for hours have been a daily ordeal. Jumping of tracks and altercation over overtaking have become regular.

Nearby villagers complain that many buses, who wants to escape the traffic blocks, take diversions through narrow rural roads, causing accidents. Bus owners lament that they are forced to cancel many trips as they are not able to keep timings. Many a time, bumpy rides through the huge potholes lead to accidents. Ambulances, taking critically ill patients, too have to wait in long queues.

Demand for aid

Meanwhile, Anil Akkara, MLA, demanded financial aid for re-tarring the Muthuvara road.

A special package should be allowed to repair the battered stretch, the MLA said.

The Congress is planning a protest march to the houses of Ministers from the district demanding repairing of roads.
