Six members of a family, including two minors. were found dead in Suryapet district of Telangana on Monday morning. Police are viewing the incident as a suicide pact prompted by the disappearance of the eldest son of the family after he incurred a Rs 3-crore debt.

The bodies of 59-year-old Kasturi Janardhan and others were found by a neighbour in Janardhan’s house in Mamilagadda area on Monday morning. Police said the adult members of the family consumed pesticide and apparently fed it to the two minors as well on Sunday night.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Suryapet) Nageshwara Rao said, “Janardhan’s eldest son K Chandramouli had incurred debts of nearly Rs 3 crore in his real estate and hawala business in Pune and Mumbai. On September 11, Chandramouli left home in Kasturi Bazaar and did not return, and his cell phone is switched off too. Since then several moneylenders visited Janardhan’s house and fought with him.”

“Janardhan told neighbours that the family felt humiliated following constant visits of moneylenders. He was also sad that his son not only abandoned them but also his wife and two young daughters. On Sunday night Janardhan, his wife Chandrakala (50), their younger son Ashok (25), Prabha (30) wife of Chandramouli, Sirisha(8) and Rutvika (5) consumed pesticide,’’ Rao said.

Police is searching for Chandramouli.
