Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will launch Google’s Unified Payment Interface-based digital payments app Tez. WhatsApp and Facebook too are in talks with the NPCI to enable UPI payments on their platforms. UPI allows money transfers from one bank to another using a virtual address.

The Centre will file an affidavit in the Supreme Court on its stance on Rohingya Muslims. The Supreme Court had asked the government to file the affidavit on a plea against the deportation of illegal Rohingya Muslim immigrants to Myanmar. The plea, filed by two Rohingya immigrants, Mohammad Salimullah and Mohammad Shaqir, who are registered as refugees under the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), claimed they have taken refuge in India after escaping from Myanmar due to widespread discrimination, violence and bloodshed against the community there. They challenged their deportation on several grounds, including violation of international human rights conventions.

The Supreme Court will take up the appeal of the CBI challenging the Madras High Court order staying the Government’s look-out circular against Karti Chidambaram, son of former Union Minister P Chidambaram, in a corruption case. The FIR lodged by the CBI on May 15 had alleged irregularities in Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds to the tune of Rs 305 crore in 2007 when Karti’s father was the Finance Minister.

The board of markets regulator SEBI is likely to discuss the issue of shell companies. Over 300 listed companies as also hundreds of unlisted entities and individuals, suspected to be misusing the stock exchange platform for tax evasion, among other wrongdoings, are under SEBI lens. The board will also consider proposals on expediting settlement proceedings and streamlining its internal mechanism to better decide on whether they need soft or hard enforcement actions. The internal guidelines would also be made applicable for pending cases. The proposal assumes significance against the backdrop of various high profile cases, including those related to the NSE and PwC, where settlements are being sought.

The Central Railway will introduce a see-through Vistadome coach on Mumbai-Goa route. The Dadar-Madgaon Jan Shatabdi Express will get a special coach with glass-roof Vistadome, rotatable chairs and hanging LCDs, offering a panoramic view of the surroundings. This special Vistadome air-conditioned coach was introduced on Aarku-bound train from Visakhapatnam earlier this year.
