HC has stayed floor test till Wednesday

On a day when the Tamil Nadu Assembly Speaker disqualified 18 pro-TTV Dhinakaran faction MLAs, Governor Ch. Vidyasagar Rao was in Delhi. He met President Ram Nath Kovind.

The Governor is expected to reach Chennai on Tuesday afternoon. The Madras High Court has stayed the floor test till Wednesday.

The Governor, according to sources, apprised the President about the prevailing political turmoil in Tamil Nadu.

Meanwhile, according to sources, a delegation of five senior AIADMK leaders including KP Munusamy, Manoj Pandiyan and Rajya Sabha MP V Maitreyan had a long meeting with senior counsels to discuss the way forward to resolve the issue at the Election Commission. The AIADMK election symbol of two-leaves remains frozen.

Last week, the Dhinakaran faction submitted a memorandum to the Election Commission requesting the poll panel to declare the September 12 general council called by the AIADMK (Amma) and the AIADMK (Puratchi Thalaivi Amma) factions as illegal and not to recognise their decision to cancel Ms. Sasikala’s appointment as general secretary.

“We also had brief discussions on the legal tenability of the Speaker’s decision to disqualify the 18 MLAs. Some people are claiming it won’t stand legal scrutiny. However, we are confident that the Courts will not overturn the decision,” a senior AIADMK leader said.

The delegation has already left for Chennai.
