Training programme begins

Principal Judicial Magistrate and chairperson of the District Legal Services Authority, Poornima, inaugurated a training programme for volunteers on core laws at the combined court complex here on Monday.

She said that these volunteers acting as a bridge between law officers and ordinary citizens by providing them functional knowledge of laws. Basic knowledge of the law was essential for all citizens. As it was not possible for judges to disseminate such knowledge to citizens, these volunteers come handy, she added.

On Monday, sessions on laws for factory workers, civil laws and marriage laws, were held.

On September 19, sessions will be held on victims of HIV/AIDS and their rights, dowry, and harassment of working women, bank laws, and criminal laws.

On September 20 sessions will be held on POCSO Act, Juvenile Justice Act, Child Marriage Restraint Act, Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, 2005, laws relating to arrest, filing of FIR, and bail, and motor accident cases.

On September 21, child rights, rights of prisoners, and fundamental rights and duties of prisoners, revenue laws, and Hindu Marriage Act will be discussed.
