The Mumbai suburban railway system has a passenger carrying capacity of seven million per annum. On the other hand, the metro lines being developed by government in Mumbai will have a capacity of nine million in four years, said Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Monday.

He was addressing the delegates at the fifth edition of FICCI’s progressive Maharashtra 2017 summit. Fadnavis said the residents of Mumbai will have to face inconvenience for a few years due to large-scale construction activity but by 2022 all the projects would be completed.

He said that works of 120 km of the metro lines have already commenced, which will be soon raised to 200 km.

On the trans-harbour link connecting Mumbai with Navi Mumbai, Fadnavis said that the work order would be issued in the next 20 days.

On the Navi Mumbai international airport, he said the first phase is likely to be commissioned by December 2019 and the second phase by 2022.
