Four SIM cards, marijuana recovered from central prison during routine search

A routine search conducted by the Southeast division police in the Bengaluru Central Prison on Saturday led to seizure four SIM cards and a small quantity of marijuana from the barracks where undertrials are lodged.

Though senior police officials said the raid could not yield anything major, the recovery of four SIM cards and marijuana concealed in the toilet reveals that the supply of contraband into the highly secured prison continues unabated.

M.B. Boralingaiah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Southeast), who headed the search party, said the SIM cards had been handed over to the jurisdictional police with a direction to conduct a detailed investigation.

According to a senior police official, the accused would smuggle SIM cards into the prison using various modus operandi and were even offering them to other inmates at a hefty price. Though there are mobile phone jammers in the prison, they are outdated and need to be upgraded to 4G, sources said.
