Flag torching: police atrocity alleged

Manjunath, who had given a lead to the police about the flag torching incident in the city recently, has alleged that the police had threatened him and registered false statements.

Speaking to reporters here on Sunday, Manjunath, a resident of Galipura layout, alleged that the police tortured and forced him to give false statements against the arrested, Prakash and Bangaru.

Manjunath said that on Thursday, he had informed the police about three people moving in a suspicious manner on a motorbike on the day the flag was torched. On Friday night, the police approached him stating that they have arrested a few people in the case and took Manjunath to identify the accused.

He said that, "Police threatened to trouble my family members if I failed to give statements against the arrested and also thrashed me." Later, the police took him to Santhemarahalli police station and threatened him again, he said. “Following this, I accepted to give statements against the arrested,” Manjunath said.
