Two school boys were nabbed on Friday by Madurai district police for allegedly defrauding two ATM users at Usilampatti in the district on Wednesday.
According to the police, the boys, hailing from Uchapatti and V. Kannapatti, cheated the users of a public sector bank’s ATM under the pretext of helping them withdraw money.
Police said that after withdrawing money for the users with their debit cards, the boys deceived the two users by giving back different debit cards to them instead of their actual cards.
Later, they used the actual cards to withdraw money from the accounts of the two victims. In the two incidents, that happened in a gap of 30 minutes, the boys illegally withdrew ₹6,400 from the account of a twenty-year-old woman from Usilampatti and ₹34,000 from P. Muthammal (56) from Usilampatti.
The Usilampatti police, who booked separate cases of cheating for the two incidents, detained the boys and produced them before the Juvenile Justice Board. After recovering the money, the two boys were let off with stringent warning by the JJB.
