‘Design Spine’ engineers need of the hour: expert

India needs ‘Design Spine’ engineers who are capable of setting competencies to meet educational goals in areas such as creative thinking, problem solving, teamwork, economics of engineering, project management, communication skills, ethics, and environmental issues, said Commodore PR Kulakarni from NSTL here on Friday at GITAM University. He was delivering a lecture as part of the Engineer’s Day celebrations.

Addressing students, he said a national level committee consisting of IITians, reviewed the present engineering education system in the country and prepared a national manifesto to guide the technical education institutes.

VPT senior marine engineer V. Lakshmipathi Rao shared various challenges that they come across in maintaining marine engines and their maintenance.

Institution of Engineers (India) GITAM student chapter president Mohan Reddy and secretary Shravani spoke.

Earlier, Vice-Chancellor MS Prasada Rao paid floral tributes to Mokshagundam Visvesvaraya on his 156th birth anniversary.

At Lendi

Lendi Institute of Engineering and Technology celebrated the day on its campus at Jonnada in Vizianagaram district. Deputy General Manager (IT) of Visakhapatnam Steel Plant Suman Das, participated as chief guest. Principal V.V. Rama Reddy, chairman P. Madhusudhana Rao and vice chairman P. Srinivasa Rao spoke. The students presented their projects at the expo organised on the occasion.
