Mohan Kumar K., accused in 20 cases of rape and murder, was awarded life sentence in one of the cases on Friday just after he concluded his arguments in another murder case. The pronouncement of the quantum of punishment for the murder of a woman from Puttur was the five cases in the list of business before the court on Friday.

Mohan on Friday cross examined a magistrate from Bantwal, who had recorded statement of the person who had supplied cyanide to him, after his deposition in the murder of two women from Puttur and Bajpe.

He then argued in length debunking the circumstantial evidence gathered by the police with respect to the murder of a woman from Belthangady, who was found dead in public toilet in Hassan Bus stand.

Prosecutor Judith O.M. Crasta countered it and said that the clinching evidence gathered by the police showed Mohan’s presence in the lodge in Hassan along with a woman on September 24, 2009, a day before the murder.

Then he sought time for submission of further arguments. After posting the case to October 11, the judge D.T. Puttarangaswamy sentenced Mohan to life around 2 p.m. and ended the morning court session.

He will be produced before the court for four days from October 11. There are 16 cases pending of which two cases are for submission of final arguments.
