The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has issued a show cause notice to the Ryan International School, Gurugram.
The board has asked why its affiliation should not be withdrawn over the murder of a seven-year-old student on the school premises last week.
It observed that there was a “wilful” violation of the affiliation rules by the school management which led to the murder of Pradyuman, asking the manager of the school to submit a reply to the notice within 15 days.
The board served the notice taking cognizance of the report of a fact-finding committee which noted that Pradyuman would not have been murdered, had the school authorities discharged their duties and responsibilities “with care and sincerity”. The committee submitted its report to the CBSE on Friday.
“The manager of Ryan International School is served with notice to show cause as to why provisional affiliation for secondary and senior secondary level may not be withdrawn for wilful violation of the provisions of the Affiliation Bylaws of the Board,” the board said.
If the school fails to submit a reply within 15 days, an ex-parte decision will be taken as per the provision of the affiliation bylaws, “assuming” that the school authorities have nothing to say in the matter, the board made it clear to the manager of the school in the show cause notice.
“From the entire sequence of events (as probed and reported by the committee), it appears that the school is guilty of gross negligence and failed to ensure safety and security of the students in the school,” the CBSE said.
