They sold 4.47 acres to a private party

The Central Bureau of Investigation has registered a case against two engineers of the V.O. Chidambaranar Port Trust, Thoothukudi, on charges of facilitating transfer of 4.47 acres of port land to a private person.

The port officials — Immanuel Duraibala, assistant executive engineer, Civil Engineering department; and P.M. Jude, assistant engineer, Project Division — allegedly entered into a criminal conspiracy with Ramasubbiah of Ottapidaram, and abused their official position by removing original documents pertaining to 4.47 acres owned by the port in Mullakad village.

The officials allegedly helped Ramasubbiah to forge documents in favour of his claim of ownership of the land, sources said.

Obtained NOC too

The duo even managed to get a no-objection certificate from the port trust board for issuing parts for the land in favour of Ramasubbiah.

The CBI’s Anti-Corruption Branch registered a case against the three persons on charges of criminal conspiracy, forgery, using fake documents as genuine and criminal misconduct of a public servant. Investigators seized documents from the port and revenue authorities.

The V.O.C Port Trust, formerly the Tuticorin Port Trust, has a land bank of 3850.73 acres, comprising Harbour Estate, Rail siding and Ambasamudram quarry.
