The Supreme Court has asked the Delhi High Court to decide in 10 days on AAP leader Raghav Chadha’s plea to quash the criminal defamation case filed by Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley.

A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud on Friday asked the high court to advance the hearing and finish the proceedings in the case by September 25.

Jaitley’s counsel senior advocates Mukul Rohatgi and Sidharth Luthra opposed Chadha’s plea, contending the petitioner has deliberately delayed the proceedings before the trial court.

Objecting to the contention, senior advocate Anand Grover said the counsel was making the submission before the apex court even though no notice has been issued in the matter.

Chadha said his plea before the high court has been posted for hearing only in October.

He sought to quash the case, saying he only retweeted Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s tweet against Jaitley.
