Official hopeful it will reach its full capacity during monsoon

Within two weeks, the depth of water in Sathanur dam has increased by 22.80 feet. On Thursday, the water level stood at 98.15 feet as against its total depth of 119 feet.

It was from September 2 surplus water from the Krishnagiri Reservoir Project (KRP) dam was released, following which the Sathanur dam started to receive water. While 3,700 cusecs of water was initially released from the KRP dam, the inflow gradually decreased and stood at 1,064 cusecs on Thursday. From 75.35 feet on September 3, the water level in the dam has gone up to 98.15 feet. As against its total storage capacity of 7,321 mcft, the dam’s present storage level was 3,484 mcft.

Officials of the Public Works Department said the level in the dam is rising slowly as the inflow has reduced. “There is a chance that the level in the dam could reach its full storage capacity if there are rains in Krishnagiri. If not, the dam will definitely reach its full storage capacity during the north-east monsoon rains,” an official said.
