Nitin Gadkari makes announcement at Delhi BJP’s two-day executive meet

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will present a “big gift to Delhiites” by inaugurating several highway projects over the next six months to free the Capital from traffic congestion and pollution, Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said during the Delhi BJP’s two-day executive meeting here on Thursday.

In the past two years, Mr. Gadkari said, the Narendra Modi government has provided “₹40,000 crore” for infrastructural development in Delhi.

“Six months from now, Mr. Modi will give a big gift to the people of Delhi by inaugurating several highways that will free the city from traffic jams and pollution,” the Minister was quoted as saying in a statement by the Delhi BJP.

Ghazipur landfill

The expansion of National Highway-24 heading towards Meerut at an expenditure of ₹6,000 crore will use waste dumped at the Ghazipur landfill, providing a huge relief to local residents, he added. A portion of the landfill had collapsed earlier this month, killing two people.

“The Modi government has also sanctioned thousands of crores of rupees for Dhaula Kuan-Jaipur, Mukarba Chowk-Panipat and Dwarka Expressways, and the North-West corridor,” he said.

Praising Mr. Modi on issues including Doklam and triple talaq, Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari slammed the Arvind Kejriwal-led Delhi government and accused it of indulging in “scams”.

“While the Modi government is not only ruling but also working towards social transformation, the Kejriwal government is indulging in scams like mohalla clinics,” Mr. Tiwari said.

A political resolution passed by the Delhi BJP condemned the Delhi government on 21 issues and also slammed the Congress for allegedly “misguiding” Delhiites on various issues.

BJP leaders including Vijay Goel, Meenakshi Lekhi, and Vijender Gupta were also present on the occasion.
