Railway Police seize 200 kg of ganja

In one of the biggest breakthroughs of recent times relating to smuggling narcotic substance, the Railway Police on Thursday seized Ganja weighing 200 kilograms. Acting on inputs of informants, special parties of railway police checked three trains -LTT Express, East Coast Express and Konark Express - and caught seven persons. “While checking LTT Express, we caught a suspect P. Mahender Dora of Ganjam in Odisha State and recovered Ganja weighing 80 kg,” Telangana State Railways and Road Safety Director General T. Krishna Prasad said.

Dora admitted to his interrogators that he was smuggling Ganja from Visakhapatnam to Mumbai. Two others were supposed to receive it at Gulbarga. Based on his confession, a team was sent to Gulbarga where two others Ajaz Patan and Manjai Chourasia were caught. Both hailed from Maharashtra.

Another special team checking East Coast Express caught Ramesh Chand Pradhan, Vanthala Chittibabu and Gollori Karunanidhi. While Ramesh was from Odisha, the other two belonged to Andhra Pradesh. The trio was caught when it reached Secunderabad railway station carrying 90 kg of ganja in traveller bags.

Two others were picked up from Konark Express when they reached Warangal railway station. The duo Raj Kumar Raut of Bihar and Rubin Naik of Odihsa was carrying 30 kg of ganja. The total ganja recovered was valued at ₹30 lakh, Secunderabad Urban Deputy Superintendent of Railway Police S. Rajendraprasad said.
