30 government primary teachers sacked in Allahabad

In a crackdown on state-run primary school teachers who were missing from duty for long duration without any intimation, the government has sacked 30 assistant teachers in eight development blocks of Allahabad.

“We have issued dismissal orders for 30 assistant teachers posted at various government primary schools of Allahabad after they did not respond to the third and final notice seeking explanation for their long absence from duty,” basic shiksha adhikari (BSA), Allahabad, Sanjay Kushwaha said.

At least three teachers were missing from duty since 2010.

Ragnesh Kumar, an assistant teacher at Haripur primary school, had reported for duty for the last time in August 2010. Similarly, Arvind Kumar (Ranipur primary school) and Astha Srivastava (Baijpur primary school) have been missing from duty since January 2010.

Another teacher Priya Jaiswal (Belhara primary school) was absent since August 2011 while Sunil Kumar Singh, an assistant teacher at Urai primary school in Urwa development block, had not reported for duty since August 2013.

The salaries of these teachers had been stopped soon after they went missing from duty.

As the Yogi Adityanath government has kicked off sacking or forcefully retiring corrupt and non-performing officials across the state, the action indicates that the noose is finally tightening around truant teachers too.

The BSA had sent notices to 32 such teachers on the addresses provided in their service records on June 1 and again on June 24 but none of them replied to it.

The BSA served the third and final notice on the assistant teachers giving them time till September 8 to explain their absence from duty.

Two of the teachers – Pushpa Agnihotri, posted at Baladeeh primary school in Holagarh development block (absent since November 2016) and Reena Malviya, posted at Belha primary school in Meja (absent since May 2016) – responded to the third notice after which they were granted reprieve.

More dismissals are expected not just in Allahabad but in other parts of the state too.

Sixteen candidates who bagged jobs as assistant teachers in primary schools of Allahabad on the basis of fake or fudged documents may be dismissed.

These candidates were selected in a recruitment drive carried out in 2015 for the appointment of 15,000 assistant teachers. One of the teachers has already been dismissed by the BSA on September 4.

These teachers had submitted high school and intermediate certificates of Madhya Pradesh Open School Education Board while applying for the jobs.

However, when the basic education department verified their documents, the Madhya Pradesh Open School Education Board said the certificates were fake.

Based on the report, the basic shiksha adhikari immediately stopped disbursement of their salaries and sought an explanation from them. Their dismissal and recovery of salaries paid to them is likely to follow.

A teacher posted at Naiwahi primary school in Manda development block was dismissed after it emerged that he had bagged job on the basis of fake documents of Madhya Pradesh Open School Education Board.
