It feels great when one gets the ownership of the land on which one is born and brought up, Revenue Minister Kagodu Thimmappa said.

He was speaking after distributing title deeds to beneficiaries at a programme at Government First Grade College in Mudipu on Thursday.

Thimmappa said the state government is keen on providing the ownership of land to the people who dwell on it. Therefore, the title deeds are being distributed to the eligible, he added.

He took a dig at the earlier BJP-led state government saying that he fails to understand why the previous government did not take any measures to provide title deeds to people. Also, poor are deprived of basic facilities during the regime of the previous government, he charged.

Thimmappa said he has been consistently been following the process of the distribution of title deeds to the needy and called upon the party leaders to help the eligible in getting the title deeds.

Food and Civil Supplies Minister U T Khader, who presided over the programme, said that Rs 4 crore has been granted by the state government for the development of Government First Grade College, Kurnadu, Mudipu and Rs 2 crore has already been released.

Stern action

Thimmappa has warned the officials of stern action, if they demand bribes.

He said at a press meet at Mangalagangothri that it has come to his notice that many ambitious programmes of the government have not been effectively implemented due to negligence by the officials and directed the revenue officials to provide title deeds to eligible without delay, if the documents are found valid.

“All tahsildars have been told to conduct review meetings on a weekly basis in this regard. The village accountants and panchayat development officials should conduct the spot inspection. The interference by the MLAs is not entertained,” he said.

The minister said that 77,814 applications were received under 94C in the district and among them, 73,396 have been disposed of. The rest will be processed soon. Similarly, 30,872 applications have been received under 94CC among which 9,309 have been disposed of.

A total of 35,577 title deeds have been distributed, he explained.
